The dark blue/light blue backgrounds were created with contrast in mind: the two sides of the logo and the two colours of the fonts.

My design philosophy for logos is that they need to look good and be easy to read at any size in any setting. They should also be instantly recognisable. The font is Hiruko Heavy. The plain, no-frills nature of the font and the shades of blue used suggest flexibility as well as a resolutely disciplined approach.
